[[ The Phantom awaits your presence ]]

We had dinner an hour before heading to the Esplanade Theatre

Have you come across a time when you're required to abide by certain general rules?
You know, like signs being put up telling you what you can do or cannot do?
Now I'm sure we all have come across such rules and often times, it'll leave us with no choice but agree to be bounded by them.

When I was at the Esplanade Theatre, I saw prominent signs everywhere saying "No Photography, Video recording and Audio recording is allowed for this event," and so, it was obvious that whipping out the digital camera would just be a bad idea altogether.
Security was tight as well because before we could enter the Theatre, I had my bag checked by a lady and two (CISCO?) officers.

We managed to find our seats ("centre" seats..yipee!) and then, there you have it -- Broadway's longest-running and most popular musical, was right before my eyes! Excitement was building up inside of me and I couldn't wait to go on this unrivalled musical theatre journey! While the seats were filling up, I kept having those "No Photography..." signs in my head.

I weighed the possible rewards against the possible hazards. I mean..seriously, everyone takes risks all the time, right? Just different levels of risk. The value of a risk is generally related to the end result. Risks are worth taking.

And in my case? Yup...you guessed it right.
I took the risk and here are its rewards..

An exploding replica of the Paris Opera House chandelier being pulled up slowly with the music " Overture "

:: The Phantom Stage ::

The massive chandelier came crashing to the stage right before the intermission.

During the 20-minute intermission, some most waited impatiently outside the lavatory, tapping their foot on the floor and I recall one particular lady going,
"Oh gosh, who's in this compartment?"
I totally understand how THAT feels..

The intermission had also alIowed us to get souvenirs. I got a PHANTOM poster & PHANTOM SINGAPORE t-shirt, he a PHANTOM SINGAPORE Souvenir Program & PHANTOM OF THE OPERA Complete Double CD. All these costing close to $150/-

After intermission

"Masquerade"

It was my first time watching a musical from Andrew Lloyd Webber. Not only did the music "WOW-ed" me, the 130 cast, crew and orchestra members, spectacular sets and more than 230 costumes were spectacularly beautifully brilliant. The way all the scenes of the musical was re-created on stage was simply splendid.

:: The Full Cast ::

Which one's the Phantom?

Hahah...go figure.

It's a two-way thing.....we clapped for them and they clapped for us..Niceness.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is not really a horror show (which I thought it'd be when I was younger)..Erm..It’s more of a musical thriller, if anything. But it really is a tragic love story (in more ways than one). The Phantom loves Christine Daaé, but it’s an unconditional love born out of respect and admiration for her.

:: CURTAINS DOWN ::

I clapped and cheered enthusiastically and after 2 hours 30 minutes, I left as a happy member of the audience .

Though it's already been a week, I've to admit that I'm still PHANTOMISED.

So...where did I put up my PHANTOM poster?

Nicely framed and displayed on my sliding wardrobe.. *smiles*

This is not the end.
This is not even the beginning of the end.
It is, instead, the end of the beginning..
