[[ Singaporeans, please eat with your families TODAY! ]]

At the end of Tuesday's class, Joe (with his native American accent) went, "Alright, see you guys next week"

I'm like, "Huh?"

It was only then I knew that today...yes, TODAY is "Eat With Your Family Day" and 2007 is its 5th year for this event.

Friday, May 25 - a day designated by the Singapore government as Eat With Your Family Day, in hope to strengthen family ties through the "simple act of sitting down and taking a meal together more frequently".

I also heard there're companies, organisations and schools that close by 5pm for this event. Yah...just to eat with their families..Well, I don't know but it makes me wonder - how many Singaporeans would rush straight home after what they've been doing outside, to eat with their families just because the government tells them to?

With the recent release of Pirates of the Caribbean, I'm sure that most will probably sail through this day munching on popcorn and looking forward to Chow Yun Fatt's "Welcome to Singapore!"

But come on people, look at it this way.....The government is already sweet enough to allow companies, organisations and schools across Singapore to stop work and end activities by 5pm, so why not make the best out of it by putting aside your other responsibilities and focus more on your family for a while?

I agree that one day won't make much of a difference to strengthen family ties, but it has to start somewhere, right? After all, family bonding doesn’t just happen. It needs to be cultivated.

If today is "Eat With Your Family Day"...Yesterday was "Eat with Your Gurlfrens Day"Happy B'day, Yanti!

Now going back to Tuesday's class, we were jotting down sentences written by Joe on the board, when I chanced upon Angie writing squiggly lines all over the A4 paper...I was like, "what language is that?"..She replied with a smile, "It's shorthand."

Aahhhhh.......and so, at breaktime I asked her to provide me with these:

Don't worry, I'm not that bad to not provide you its meanings.
Here you are...

And lastly, this "statement".. ...was mentioned by an Ustaz, during a course I took up quite recently at the Muslim Converts', and I'm sure it's applicable to us all....it reads:

You've heard of the
latest movie "Blades Of Glory", right? Now how about hearing the Singapore version of it?

More of that coming up in my next post!

So stay glued to..

This is not the end.
This is not even the beginning of the end.
It is, instead, the end of the beginning..
