[[ Behind this article, lies a fond memory ]]

Today, I was flipping through BERITA HARIAN (the newspaper for the local Malay community) when I came across this article and recognised the guy in the picture:

It's Roslan Shah, the well-known Malay Recording Artist / Actor...

(note: I've specifically highlighted who Roslan Shah is but if you're still wondering which one, then I've nothing else to say but to just *sigh*)

Some time back, before Ramadhan, Roslan Shah was the MC for the 'ASIAN HALAL FOOD EXPO 2007'

And this was what happened:
Yup....that's Roslan Shah "interviewing" my Boyfriend with his 1001 questions. :-)

How the Boyfriend landed himself on stage was a total funny incident. We had just entered the exhibition from this really huge Book Fair. There were just the 3 of us -- Elena, my boyfriend and I. We spent close to 2 hours just going through the wide array of books and it was him who detected that there was a "Halal food exhibition"

Curious (and hungry), we looked out for EXPO HALL 5.
Distracted by the huge display of food, we weren't paying much attention on what was going on stage.

Not till I heard the MC (Roslan Shah) announcing in Malay, "Okay, I need someone to come up on stage. Who shall it be?"

Without my Boyfriend knowing (he was indulging himself in the Turkish ice-cream at that time), I pointed straight at him. Now I didn't think it was possible for Roslan Shah to see me doing the "pointing-at-the-boyfriend" thingy, simply because we were at the far end of the Hall. But I stopped pointing when I heard Roslan Shah going, "Aaaahhhh!....there's one over there! Let's go!"

My jaws dropped when Roslan Shah came running towards us. I was shocked, Elena was like "Errr....." and Boyfriend looked super confused when Roslan Shah came up to him and said to me, "I'm borrowing him, okay?"...There was another guy (in pink) who was brought up on stage and from then on, the fun begins...

:-)

The other guy and Boyfriend were told that they were going to perform a dance and because the other guy's a Malay, he knew the steps. But of course, when it came to my Boyfriend, it took Roslan Shah a little more time to teach him the steps..
Ohkay....SHOW-TIME.
Now what song was being played?
Go ahead, click on the PLAY button (twice)..

Yup...a "Dangdut" (a fusion of Indian, Arab and Malay) song and Boyfriend was taught by Roslan Shah on how to "gelek" (swaying of the hips / rump-shaking)
So by listening to the song, you can pretty much imagine how he did it!

I must say that for a first-timer, I think Boyfriend "gelek-ed" quite well and with the prodigious audience applauding & cheering, and Roslan Shah with his comical remarks - it was a great atmosphere altogether.
There was no popcorn to enjoy the show but Elena & I had this instead which tasted just as good, if not even better! After everything ended, we went to get more food and munched away outside Burger King.

Boyfriend said by looking at what we've bought, it looked like it could feed 10 people! Well hello, we were hungry okay...

After food, we rummaged through the plastic bags that consisted of the books we had bought earlier. Elena got herself an Atlas and we did this:

Elena pointing to Spain, and Boyfriend pointing to Germany.

5 days later --- PICKPOCKETED.

Gone. Everything Gone.

(yes, and that includes my N95)

This is not the end.
This is not even the beginning of the end.
It is, instead, the end of the beginning..
